What We're Up to Right Now
A Call to Prayer and Fasting

The Biblical Presbyterian Network calls on Presbyterians nationwide to pray and fast in June as the Presbyterian Church (USA) prepares for the July General Assembly in Minneapolis. Wea dvocate this month of prayer and fasting to seek biblical faithfulness in our denomination.

We urge Presbyterians in every presbytery to gather throughout June for set days and times of prayer and fasting to ask Almighty God to move powerfully among the commissioners of the General Assembly and to lead them to make decisions that uphold our biblical and confessional integrity and that glorify our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We issue this call out of humility before our Heavenly Father, openly confessing our own sinfulness and need of transformation. Yet we lament that our denomination continues to struggle with challenges to the most basic elements of our faith. At this General Assembly, our church will debate many important issues, such as the definition of marriage, the place of the nation of Israel in the world and ethical standards for ordained church officers. We call upon everyone in our denomination to pray fervently for a revival of faithfulness throughout our church.

We affirm our belief that if our denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA), will humble itself before the holiness and truthfulness of God, then repentance, revival and recommitment to biblical faithfulness are genuinely possible across the nation, through the mercy and power of God.

We desire to be a blessing to our denomination and to the worldwide Church of Jesus Christ. We desire to honor those who have faithfully gone before us. For these reasons, we issue this call to prayer and fasting, imploring concerned Presbyterians to gather with fellow believers in solemn assemblies throughout June to ask our sovereign God to strengthen our faith for the time of trial.

Issued this Lord's Day, May 9th 2010.

To God alone be the glory.

Dear Praying Friends

Dear Praying Friends,

These are difficult economic days for all of us. These are also difficult days for the Presbyterian Church, USA and for the Church of Jesus Christ all around the world. Presbyterian Elders in Prayer needs your help to continue calling people to their knees for our globe, nation, denomination, and local congregations. Second Chronicles 7:14 speaks clearly to us: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Even as we call our denomination and other parts of God’s kingdom to confession and repentance for His restoration, we are also aware of our own sins and our need to confess and repent; knowing that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3: 23). Even those who serve on our board and those who often contribute articles for the newsletter are imperfect, flawed people. We love Jesus…deeply. But we are not yet all that we are meant to become in His service. When we are corrected by the Holy Spirit, working through Holy Scripture, we confess and repent…trusting in the grace of Christ to continue that wondrous sanctifying work within us and among us.

As the one who is privileged to serve as PEP’s Executive Director, I want to assure you that your Board of Directors, contributors, and all parts of PEP’s ministry pray and labor to proclaim Biblical Christianity as upheld by our Book of Confessions. All prayers are to be prayed to God, through Jesus. We trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to prompt and guide our prayers.
